The city of innovation recently reintroduced autonomous delivery robots: cute, quiet and efficient little machines that navigate pedestrian zones to bring you everything from fresh salads to flat whites. No traffic, no emissions, no tipping required. But robots are just the beginning.

Expo City is leading the charge with fewer cars, lower emissions and a big push for EVs. Whether you're heading to a business meeting or zipping between restaurants, the city is designed to prioritise electric over exhaust.

Buggies, bikes and beyond

The return of autonomous delivery robots – relatives of the robots that wowed visitors during Expo 2020 – is a symbol of what urban mobility can be: smart, sustainable and human-centric. Self-driving shuttles? Hyperloop test tracks? Solar-powered bike highways? If it’s bold and better for the planet, it’s probably already in the works in Dubai.

Dubai and Abu Dhabi are already actively developing electric air taxi services, aiming to revolutionise urban mobility with sustainable solutions. Abu Dhabi is set to become the first city in the UAE to launch commercial electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) air taxis. Archer Aviation plans to commence operations as early as 2025, with the Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal being transformed into a hybrid heliport to accommodate these services.

Dubai is also progressing in this domain. Joby Aviation has secured an exclusive agreement with Dubai's Road and Transport Authority (RTA) to operate air taxis in the city for six years, with services expected to begin by 2026.

These air taxis are fully electric, ensuring zero operational emissions to align with the UAE's commitment to environmental sustainability.
